The Cottages
Located on the tranquil shores of Glen Lake, Birch Shores Cottages are a family-friendly retreat that provides guests with the perfect spot to unwind and experience lakefront living at its finest.
About Us
Scotty’s Father, Bob Seward, came to Glen Lake in the 1950s. Looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Chicago, he drove to Northern Michigan. Needing a place to stay, he rented a cottage on Glen Lake and fell in love with the simple beauty of the place. Ever since, the Seward family has been coming here. Scotty and Gail bought Birch Shores in the 1980’s. Many of our guests from that era still come to the same cottages for the same weeks every summer. Tradition was born, and we carry it on.
In 2022, both cottages were remodeled with new flooring and carpets, new leather sofas & loveseats, new dining tables, new bathrooms, new ceiling fans and table lamps, new cookware, silver and dishes, and new charcoal grills.

Upon entering Aspen, the Scandinavian half-timbered interior reflects the builder’s national heritage. The ambiance will embrace you. Connect your laptop to the internet or view on the 65″ TV monitor to connect and work remotely if needed. Disconnect and unwind on the sun-dappled deck. The kitchen has the top-of-the-line Whirlpool convection gas range, beverage and large stainless GE Profile fridges.
There’s a new 15′ x 30′ deck on Aspen to admire awesome sunsets and unmatched views of the Dunes.
Weekly Rental, Saturday-Saturday: $3,000 per Summer week (before taxes & fees). 2-day minimum stays after 9/16 until 10/29 to enjoy Fall Color, for $199 per night. Aspen is uninsulated and has one electric wall heater. Weekly rentals begin May 4th. Aspen closes for the season on 10/31.
Hemlock Cottage
Sleeps 8 happy travelers in 3 bedrooms with a Queen bed in the Master bedroom, two double beds and two twin beds.

Hemlock has a nice lake view from the family room-dining room. There is a fire place, fire pit and a two-kid Hammock. Enjoy a 47″ Monitor to connect to the Internet for Netflix, Amazon, News and more. Dual overhead fans, gas ranges, beverage and large stainless GE Profile fridges.
For those Fall Color and Winter Ski expeditions, Hemlock has central gas heat to warm you up. Hemlock is a little larger than Aspen.
Saturday to Saturday $2,500 per Summer week (before taxes & fees). 2-day minimum stays after 9/16 until 12/21 for $199 per night. Christmas Week (12/21 to 12/28) and New Year’s Week (12/28 to 1/4/25) for longer stays. Hemlock cottage is insulated and has central gas heat to enjoy Fall Color or Winter Holiday stays from 10/31/24 – 1/4/25.

The most beautiful inland Lake in America! In June, at a warm 72 degrees, Aspen has 2 deep-water moorings for guest’s ski boats… in contrast – at a frigid 58 degrees, Lake Michigan has no boat moorings available.
